By 2015, I began to feel immense regret whenever I discarded the dirty paint water after cleaning my brushes; it felt excessively wasteful. To respond to the voice in my head that screamed every time I poured out a cup of this water, I started experimenting with reusing it. Instead of dumping out the precious water and used paint, I poured it onto surfaces and allowed it the freedom to settle into new paintings. This conservation effort turned into an ongoing project that I’ve called “Remainder Pours”; these paintings are by-products of predecessor paintings and are the end result of a more waste-free art making process.
